Chapter 2-
Class Management Tips
Key Principles
Note:
The elaborated principle and detailed examples, exercises for the teacher and mini-lessons for the class are written in the book.
consistency
No matter which set of rules you present your class at the beginning of the year, make sure you ask your principal's approval and support beforehand.
It is very important that you will live up to your word. Do not change "the rules" every other day, you will only be perceived by your students as not serious and more importantly unreliable teacher.
Classroom Management
maintaining class rules
Assertive responses to disturbance, rather than discussions or arguments with students help reduce the number of discipline incidents in class.
get your students' attention
There is no doubt that certain tension leads to better focus and learning. This tension is mostly created when there is a classroom, group, or personal goal like a project, test, or a special day the students are waiting for.

interpersonal relationships
In my opinion, the real key to significantly reducing classroom management challenges is fostering interpersonal relationships with your students. The late Rita Pearson said in her Ted talk: "Children do not learn from people they don't like" and I agree with her.
My experience has taught me that the harder I work outside the classroom, the easier it gets inside. In other words, the more time I invest in creating interpersonal relationships with more students (Personal conversations, kind words, little surprises, positive reinforcements) I become a meaningful person to manyt of them. Thus, the number of discipline challenges is reduced tremendously.

be attentive
I remember the years when I was afraid of the noise in the classroom-the fear of losing control. As the years have gone by, I have learned to look at "the noise" from another perspective... to see "noise" as another way to connect with my students, see what troubles them and keeps them out of track. Once I take a few minutes and relate to the problem, they calm down and start focusing on the material again.
